Lionel Smit (b. 1982, Pretoria) is a South African painter and sculptor known for large-scale contemporary portraiture, translating his richly patinated faces and busts into monumental bronze. Based near Cape Town and represented by Everard Read, he won the Visitors' Choice Award at London's National Portrait Gallery (BP Portrait Award) and a 2013 Ministerial Award for Visual Art. He is the son of sculptor Anton Smit.
